What many people do not know is a sweet 16 is filled with tradition, much like a wedding. Traditional ceremonies include:

Candle Lighting Ceremony - Where we light 16 candles to honor the day, each with a special meaning.

1 for the parents
1 for the grandparents
3-6 represent close family members
7-14 represent friends
15 represents the best friend
And 16 represents the significant male in her life, such as a boyfriend or best friend.

Shoe Ceremony - The father or grandfather would approach the girl, seated in the center of the floor, with a pair of high-heels on a pillow. Then he would slip them on to her feet. This is symbolic of the transition from a girl to a woman.

Tiara Ceremony - Vey similar to the shoe ceremony, however, in this case a tiara on a pillow is carried and placed on the girls head. This can be combined with shoe ceremony allowing both the father and grandfather to carry a pillow.

And of course there is the father-daughter dance. A timeless sweet 16 ceremony, and wedding ceremony. Also one of my favorites.
